Cotopaxi Volcano with a height of 5,897m is considered one of the highest and most active volcanoes in the world, it is an emblematic mountain for climbers with or without experience, its ascent requires only 2 days through an impressive glacier, the climb itself is not technical, but it does require a good acclimatization and a certified high mountain guide.

Itinerary:

Day 1: Machachi 3,000 m - José Rivas Refuge 4,800 m

The adventure begins in Machachi city, the meeting will be at Casa del Montañero at 09:00 a.m. on arrival we will try the necessary mountain equipment for the climb, then we will pass through a local restaurant for lunch and in the space of 1 hour in our private transport we will arrive at the Cotopaxi National Park already in the parking lot we will take all our luggage to walk 1 hour to the Cotopaxi Refuge “José Rivas” located at 4,800 m and in the refuge we will have hot drinks and a talk about the handling of mountain material , route to the summit and more details necessary before the ascent, before 18:00 dinner will be served and then go to rest until midnight.

Day 2: José F. Rivas Refuge 4,800 m - Cotopaxi Volcano Summit 5,897 m - Back to Machachi

The departure time will depend on the climbers’ conditions, breakfast will be served and then we will pack with all the high mountain equipment ready.Our ascent will begin at midnight, we will walk for approximately 1.5 hours to the 5,200 m glacier where we will use crampons, ice ax and the rope. We will walk for about 5 more hours until we reach the summit with the first rays of the sun, already at the top of the second highest mountain in Ecuador, we will take several photos of the crater and many surrounding mountains, the return will be by the same route And it will be done in approximately 3 hours, once in the refuge we will have the rest of the breakfast and then pack and return to the town of Machachi.
